Welcome to my Deviant art page. My name is Amy Methven and I am a Freelance Artist working in many different media.
(New entry)
I would like to take the opportunity to say this; I do not consider myself an expert at anything I do whether it be at Work or College. I realise everyone is entitled to like and dislike different things. In fact I embrace that. If we all like and dislike the same things the World would be a very boring place. However, I hate it when people automatically decide they do not like something when they have not even taken a chance to even try it. I also hate it when people think they know everything about a certain thing even though they have never tried it. Sun beds for example. I work with them as a job and need to know all the pros and cons about them and all the safety prosedures when people use them. I had someone telling me that sun beds cause cancer. Sun beds produce UVRAY light, which is the same light that the sun emits. Over exposure to UVRAY light does cause cancer. However, this person who has never used sun beds before, has never asked questions about them, did not even know what accelorators were (bronzers)and didn't even know that there were stand up ones as well as lay down ones. She spent a whole hour telling me, someome that works with sun beds that Sun beds are cancer machines, use them once and you will get cancer. I don't want to stand up for sun beds, as I do not agree with them, however, I have used them before several times so therefore I have tried them, made up my own mind about them and see why people love them. Sun beds themselves do not cause cancer. However, over exposure and incorrect use of them can contribute to someone developing cancer later. It is the same with over exposure to the sun. Sun beds are used as treatments for people with skin disorders, like exhima (sp?). We have a lack of sunlight where we live and therefore our skin does not get enough vitamin D and sun beds are a good way to get Vitamin D. I am not promoting sunbeds or encouraging people to use them, but what I am saying is that people should do their homework and try stuff out or at least do research before automatically deciding on whether they like something or not. I feel this is true for most aspects of life.
People are so scared of something when it does not come under the catigory of things they accept. It is pretentious, self righteous and down right boring. I also hate it when people call artists like me, 'weird' or say things like, 'I worry about you' when I tell them certain things I like or do. I also hate it when I tell people certains things I do and people say, 'Yeah that doesn't surprise me.' I hate it when people judge others for the things they do or don't do instead of who they are. I know I am making a mountain out of a mole hill, but seriously, why can't people just be a bit more curious about new things or things they have never heard of instead of just calling it weird. Get out of the womblike trap of a bubble, step outside of your confort zone, walk on the water, don't be so opinionated, constantly saying that what you like is normal and what someone else likes is weird because its not what you consider worth your time. Break the pride, let out the childlike curiousity society has forced you to burry into the back of your mind in order for them to mould you into a puzzle piece that will fit in to the picture of what society calls normal life. Break the mould! Do something crazy! What people think of you should not matter to a true creative mind. Creativity involves some demolishion; the demolishion of preconcieved ideas.
Thank you.
